1988.8.131 | ca.1910 | overall length: 38.75 in, Barrel length: 19.5 in, H: 7.75 in | The Model 1910 self-loading rifle was yet another enlargement of the earlier Model 1905. It was chambered for the especially developed .401 Winchester self-loading smokeless cartridge, using 200 or 250 grain bullets. The heavy weight and short range accuracy of the arm limited its sales. The Model 1910 was discontinued around 1935; about 20,786 were produced. This cutaway Model 1910 is cut on the left side from the wrist through the forepiece to demonstrate the internal mechanisms. | bottom of clip/.401 CAL./upper tang/WINCHESTER/TRADE MARK/REG. U.S. PAT. 1988.8.363 | 1932-1963 | L: 39 in, Barrel length: 21.375 in | Gift of Olin Corporation, Winchester Arms Collection | The Winchester Model 61 was developed as a modern, hammerless 22 caliber rim fire repeating rifle, incorporating all of the modern features of this type of arm. This model sold in reasonably satisfactory quantities, although handicapped to some extent by the much earlier introduction of the hammerless action by competitive manufacturers. About 342,001 were made (Watrous: 1966). This experimental slide action rifle was never adopted as the Model 61, due to the infringement of a Browning patent made in Belgium. | [left barrel] 22 short-long | or Long Rifle; [breech] (Winchester proof marks) | Needs inscription, condition, and dimensions. | 22 | not serially numbered | 1988.8.363v1.jpg | 1988.8.363v2.jpg | slide action | rifle | firearm | experimental | round barrel | tubular | sporting | rear sight | finish | stock | blued overall | blade/bead | varnished | two-piece walnut | adjustable v-notch | repeating | takedown | magazine | front sight | barrel | semi-pistol grip | forepiece ribbed | Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, CT

Essentially, the Model 320 rifle is a modified version of the Model 310 with a clip loading feature to make it a repeater. A companion 22 Magnum rim fire rifle, the Model 325, was announced, but never produced. The M/320 was last listed in 1974 (Barnes: 1980). The modified stock on this Model 320 indicates that it is a prototype, and not a final production piece. | magazine/WINCHESTER/22 S.L AND L.R./barrel and receiver/[Winchester proofmarks]/ | Cataloged by BCD 4/91.
