NA.203.1602 | ca. 1890 | width: 11 in | The Paul Dyck Plains Indian Buffalo Culture Collection, acquired through the generosity of the Dyck family and additional gifts of the Nielson Family and the Estate of Margaret S. Coe | Cow bone hair pipes in four (4) sections with 30 pieces in each, strung horizontally on tanned hide and almost in chevron pattern, through 8 dark, heavy leather strip. Each section has brass beads on either side of the hair bone pipe. The end two sections of heavy leather strip are separated by cobalt blue round beads, and the center two leather sections separated by brass beads. The extra length of the hide ties (4"L) on the sides are dyed green. The bottom of the breastplate has vertical hide fringe (4"L) also dyed green. NA.202.1348 | ca. 1870 | L: 29.5 in, width: 14 in | The Paul Dyck Plains Indian Buffalo Culture Collection, acquired through the generosity of the Dyck family and additional gifts of the Nielson Family and the Estate of Margaret S. Coe | Tanned hide folded into tube, cut at diagonal at top to a tie, tapering toward bottom with triangular side flap. Varying lengths of self-fringe on flap and bottom of flap. Flap is painted green, body is painted yellow. Recto edge of flap and bottom cuff has red cotton cloth accent trim. Flap and body separated by line of green paint, red line, green line. Green dyed and twisted leather strips punched through on the red line (seam distinction) of color with 3-4 large blood red beads tied through some of the ties, with blue and green silk ribbon (remnants) added. One darker strip of hide also tied on to fringe piece on "B", a portion is wrapped with blue and white seed beads and red cotton cloth. Verso is plain.
