Coe | Horn bonnet and trailer. Bonnet consists of felt, buffalo hide and fur and slim horns of unidentified origin. Beaded brow band with blue and red tipi designs, red crosses on white ground. Four feather stems wrapped in green wool on bonnet. Blue wool trailer backed and edged with tan cloth, hand stitched. Hawk feathers wrapped in green wool cloth attached to trailer. Feathers colored with yellow ochre. NA.203.1518 | ca. 1900 | L: 24.5 in, wide at top: 7 in | The Paul Dyck Plains Indian Buffalo Culture Collection, acquired through the generosity of the Dyck family and additional gifts of the Nielson Family and the Estate of Margaret S. Coe | separate cotton cloth pieces ( one navy with cream pin stripes, one in a brown checkered plaid, one in blue and cream checkered pattern) sewn together with cotton thread to make bag. Outside recto has a square section of tanned hide with hair still present and self-fringed. A red wool cloth section is sewn to top and has ermine strands in 3 ties on front with one central black bead/button. Top is decorated with one line of blue velvet trim. Strap is made with red yarn and is tied onto the bag with hide string. One blue bead is on one of the hide strings. 3 sections of the bag strap are wrapped with ermine fur. Ermine tails hang from either side and have feather fluff inserts at ends. Red wool cloth fringe around 3 edges of bag. Coe | Pair of hair ornaments. Triangular piece of buffalo rawhide and fur with (6) vertical sections of dentalium shells below; each section divided by rectangular strip of buffalo rawhide and fur. Hide ties through top of triangle. Bi-valve shells and ermine tails attached to lower edge with sinew.
