Coe | Porcupine guard hair, dyed deer hair (red) plaited to form outer 12 outer rows of U-shaped base; center of base is dark and light hair woven into long, narrow strips. Hide strips pass through from top to bottom to tie under chin. On one side of upper portion attached with wire is: a single fluff feather with green tube bead at base; a beaded medicine wheel in orange, red, dark green and turquoise seed beads, strung and wrapped around a hide form; a 1 ½" dia. mirror attached to dark brown and white horsehair disc both on a 1 ½" dia. parfleche base attached with a safety pin to a second disc of brown and white horsehair woven around colored twine. Piece of tanned hide strip is tied through one of the holes at top and a 1 ¾" L piece of possible clay substance with hole in center is tied through. Coe | Parfleche flat case with flap included, covered with commercial canvas in two pieces on recto and verso, and with heavy cotton cloth on the bottom and over the flap. Short hide strip on verso near top for attachment. Eight (8) horizontal, single lines of quillwork on both panels, and meet at side seams. Majority red dyed quills, single width with block of orange on either end and in center - to make visual vertical lines. Center and right side proper recto has traces of red feather fluffs. There were previously fluffs on all four seams (each side and front and back center). Four (4) rawhide slats wrapped in dark red and black quills, attached to bottom, each has two tin cones with red dyed horse hair inserted. Coe | Tanned hide made into headpiece with 20" L that extends past the neck and down to a flap on the back ("helmet style"). Split wool trailer, with punctured hide piece attached to the headpiece, leather through wool to hold the feathers in place. Runs almost length of trailer 20 and 21 eagle each side, wrapped with teal embroidery thread, and orange dyed horse hair at base and on ends of feathers, along with rabbit fur (?) on tip of each feather to hide glue for hair (possible later restoration). Two brass bells, 1/3 way down on the wool, one on either side of wool trailer, are tied through with leather strip, also hold the leather piece on interior to wool cloth exterior. Cap has bison horn on each side of head tied to cap with string of blue and white pony beads, and horn topped with strips of ermine hide overall and yellow dyed horse hair wrapped with sinew. Coe | U shaped tanned hide bag, edged in painted parfleche that has been split, wrapped in dyed porcupine quills and finished with tin cones and deep red feather fluffs. One side is covered with 16 horizontal single rows of quills, and perimeter is one row. Pink majority with vertical triangles in cream and purple down the center with six (6) squares in same colors. The quilled panel has red cloth trim under it, and top/opening is trimmed with light blue satin ribbon and ribbon "handle." Opposite side is plain hide with beaded row around the U shaped perimeter in majority pink/rose seed beads with eight (8) boxes of blue and white beads. Coe | Three-section repurposed parfleche/rawhide headstall, w/ metal Spanish style bridle and keyhole sallong (headpiece) attached at top; cotton cloth goes over top to attach. The headstall is parfleche on verso, painted ochre on recto with ¼" W beading on the two sides. The two vertical pieces are 1 ¾" W that tapers to 1"W. Glass seed beads on vertical are light blue majority with two striped areas in yellow, with small blocks of translucent red and green with blue box in center. Top piece is medium blue with center small red and yellow boxes followed by dark blue and pink angles stripes. In center of upper piece is beaded block in white and translucent green vertical stripes on either side of translucent red and yellow horizontal box. Keyhole piece is tied through top headstall piece with tanned hide strip. Total 13 ½" L inc. yellow and green dyed horsehair perimeter bunches. Keyhole is majority light blue seed beads with red wool cloth bull's eye outlined in white. Half circles stripes on either side in translucent red, green and yellow, outlined in dark blue. 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock triangles in dark blue outlined in white, leading down to triangular portion. Two horizontal sections in light blue majority, top has small section after the dark blue triangle in yellow, w/ translucent red stripe following. Center is yellow with red, white, green box stripe top and bottom outlined in dark blue. Bottom has two red boxes outlined in dark blue. Top circle and bottom line of keyhole is outlined in horsehair bunches, wrapped in tanned hide and separated by 2 translucent red beads - sewn together with cotton thread. Coe | Hard soled of repurposed painted parfleche sinew sewn to one piece top, straight cut, undecorated ankle with tanned hide strip tie through holes on both sides of front and slit in back. Attached tongue, straight with cut out U-tab (2 long tabs), beaded in red majority with three (3) white boxes with blue interior on each strip and across top horizontal strip; larger red round beads tied on to each strip. Vamp and band goes around to heel. On vamp: majority tomato red seed beads, in 10 vertical rows with two (2) zig zag lines in white beads that V downward running horizontally across vamp. Three (3) beaded horizontal rows go around perimeter in same shade of red with six (6) white tipis with blue door and green insert, intermixed with five (5) sets of small, stacked white with blue insert boxes with one set on the toe – none on rear portion of shoe. Tanned hide trailer on heel, fringed into three slits. Coe | Bandolier style breastplate with 5" W sectioned, rawhide - an old parfleche- piece on bottom portion, attached to two (2) sections of tanned strips separated into four (4) strips each, all of which are wrapped in dyed porcupine quills in red, orange, green and blue in geometric patterns overall. Two (2) wrapped, thin strips attached to top ends and either side of bottom section. Each has metal cone on end with remnant of dyed feather fluff. Each strip on bottom section has metal cone with feather fluff inserted. Thin hide straps at top to serve as neck tie.
