She has a soft buckskin fringe at the hem and down both sides of the dress and yoke. An early button is sewed on the chest with a beaded drop attached to it. She has hair sewed on the back of the head and a three dimensional nose with beaded eyes and mouth. NA.203.1652 | 1930-1950 | L: 15.5 in | The Paul Dyck Plains Indian Buffalo Culture Collection, acquired through the generosity of the Dyck family and additional gifts of the Nielson Family and the Estate of Margaret S. Coe | commercial felt hat as skull cap; with brow band attached to front in tanned hide (3/4” W), beaded in majority light blue seeds beads with seven (7) stepped/squared triangles in red, pink, and black interior. Bunches of commercial ribbons on either side brow band – woven designs, light pink, cream, orange, dark blue, red, hide strips with feather fluffs on ends attached with cotton thread. Two plain hide strips – one either side – to tie on under chin. Thirty–three (33) golden eagle feathers around perimeter, quill end is looped though hair-on rawhide, and all wrapped in either light blue satin fabric or red wool boucle fabric, wrapped in two places in cotton thread. Ends of feathers have rabbit fur and yellow dyed curly horse hair – a newer addition. Feather fluffs cover the top/back of the skull cap sewn on with black thread. Warbonnet with eagle feather, smaller feather with plumes on top of hat, blue dyed feathers at base of larger feathers. Tops of feathers are accented with white dots and horse-hair streamers. Quill of feathers are wrapped with woolcloth and white tape (tape is wound in spiraling fashion around red cloth.) Beaded headband and flanking rosettes: light blue, white, dark blue, orange, black, clear strands hanging from flanking rosettes, teal and large light blue beads used as decorative element near attachment to hats base. Ermine skins with red feathers on their extreme ends. Rosette has stainless steel ball chain attached to its center area, piece of ermine is on the end of the chain. Coe | Long, narrow shaped piece of tanned hide, with rounded corners. Edges and bottom are covered in black cotton fabric – adhered with glue. Black wool cloth at front-bottom through slits in cotton fabric, serve as tie straps. Short piece of pinked wool attached to other end. Opposite end has red and blue ribbon looped though black cloth on for chin tie strap. Assorted (16) feathers adhered to top around the perimeter, standing upright, with edges pinked. Around base of each are feather fluffs in white, purple and pink. In the center, behind upright feathers are short bundles of red dyed horse hair. Majority of the upright feathers have white fluffs attached to the ends; near the top of same feathers are translucent sequins and singe beads tied on with cotton thread. Eagle feather is attached to center recto, through a metal tube.
