1.69.2410 | ca. 1900 | H: 13 x 6 x 5.25 in, L: 14.25 x 16.75 x 4 in, width: 12.625 x 20.5 x 3.25 in | Cossack (Georgian) saddle. A: High arched wood tree with raised design (heart with an arrow through it, pointing up) on pommel and cantle covered with black goat skin. Black cow skin covered seat with two ironbands nailed lengthwise on seat. Black cowskin jockeys with red cowskin border on sides and bottom and a black cowskin strip at top through which jockey is nailed to saddle. Hand carved stirrup and cinch strap holes through bottom of wood frame with leather thongs through front and rear holes. Right front thong is looped around a folded band of black leather, left rear has cinch strap attached. B. Black cowhide pad for saddle, butterfly shaped with expanded sides, slit in underside for adding and removing straw padding; pad is to be strapped over saddle. C. Left stirrup, cast iron stirrup with embossed design of cross hatching and spirals on edges. Leather strap with a black painted silver metal buckle. Leather is worn and torn on saddle, especially on edges. Pad is worn, has been patched in center front, slit has torn at both ends. Tall dark feathers with green fluffs, each wrapped in red tradecloth, fastened to a pink fabric band lined in yellow. Exterior pink band sewn with satin ribbons of white, peach and black and orange. Lavendar gros grain ribbon and satin ribbons hang behind, with three tiny gold bells on the end. There is a 7" seed bead strip with red, pink and black arrows, a red swastika, and gold buttons at either side of it, with a round center containing a gold button, in front.
