Coe | A) steatite, rectangular with pronounced anterior projection, square in cross section; diagonal lead striping and abstract forms around bowl with design inlay catlinite, steatite. Square inlay of catlinite, steatite and lead around bottom of shank end, with three (3) figures (two triangles and an oval) projecting upward from ornamental border. B) medium toned wood with satin finish, plain, tapers down slightly from shank end to mouthpiece. Mouthpiece is carved with an incorporated ridge. Two carved, concentric rings around top edge of bowl. Base widest at stem hole, rounded to base of bowl, with small, curved front area. Decorative carved ridge on top of base with notched ridges on top and side edges, carved lines and dots. Slight trace of red pigment in carvings. Square base, with elevated, angular (1" L) portion near stem boring; top and two sides have inlay pattern-catlinite inset in a lead triangle, outlined with lead above triangle (steatite showing) Top panel has two smaller triangles designs. Two long, exterior sides have 2 ½" lead, steep triangle with double ½ circle design towards top - inlay with 1 ¼" piece of catlinite. Coe | Steatite and catlinite, in eccentric shape; vertical disc supported by narrow neck, with short, tapered anterior project, and long stem. Rounded in cross section, with flat bottom. Disc is catlinite inlaid with steatite stripe down center onto neck, and dividing disc in two sections - 5 lead dots on each side perimeter.
