Coe | Tanned hide panted with yellow ochre, cut diagonally across top, into long rectangle including triangular flap, with 6 ½" L x 2" W notch cut out for bottom cuff - includes 1" of self-fringe. Self-fringed, twisted fringe on outer flap and lower cuff, up to 7" L. Side flap/leg delineated by pieces of fringe sewn through two sides of hide, and left long and twisted on verso. Decorated on entire recto perimeter (including cuff recto and verso) with narrow row of seed beads - white background with translucent red slanted bars in pairs overall. Recto: the outer edge, outside of bead strip and insert of cuff, has been painted green. 7 rows of green dots (6 to 7/row) on lower half of piece. Verso: Entire triangular flap is painted green, with the 6"L fringe delineating flap,. 4 rows of green dots (4/row) on lower portion. 2 green dots off centered near knee area. Coe | Tanned hide folded into tube, cut with large taper upward for tie - of cotton calico fabric. "b" has additional black elastic binding also sewn on. Straight across lower with self fringed bottom. Varying length of self fringe (1" - 7+") on edge of side flap. Leather thongs punctured through hide to tie off for the silhouette of the leg. 27 ¼" L bead strip along the leg taper (looks re-purposed). White, red, dark blue seed beads in 5 total ½ red and ½ blue triangles (tipi) design with 6 white break lines intersecting. White background, and 3 blue blocks on either edge. The outline of the flap is edged in thin line of yellow pigment. Coe | Slightly trapezoidal piece of dark tanned hide w/ some yellow coloring overall, folded lengthwise and sewn on outer seam w/ inserted wide, 6"L, yellow colored fringe. Top is open until fringe is sewn in 7 ½" inches from top. 1"L added fringe on cuff, also yellow colored. On lower portion are 3 rows of 3 thin stripes of dyed quillwork (restored) - red background with box designs in purple or green with pink or orange insert - wrapping around leg. Recto has 4 horseshoe designs in (2) pink and (2) light green between rows. Verso has 2 orange quillwork boxes between the rows. Along cuff is ½"W strip of seed beads in dark blue and white - on recto in intermittent vertical stripe design, and verso changes to slanted triangle in dark blue, background in white. Coe | Pair of leggings numbered (a) and (b). Dark blue knitted rectangular tubes of wool; leggings from ankle to knee or higher possibly for a girl/woman. The narrower bottom has 5 horizontally knitted ribs. The wider top has 6 more thickly knitted horizontal ribs. The body is vertical ribs in a tube.
