NA.504.469 | 1940-1960 | bowl width: 2.75 in, bowl length: 5.625 in | The Paul Dyck Plains Indian Buffalo Culture Collection, acquired through the generosity of the Dyck family and additional gifts of the Nielson Family and the Estate of Margaret S. Coe | A) mottled catlinite, tomahawk shape bowl with etchings on both side of blade: man in feather bonnet and trailer; flower with four (4) leaves protruding outward. Tobacco bowl is short and square that extends downward to appear like tomahawk, etched with long bodied arrow on both sides with outside line border. Horseshoe with 6 nail holes carved on opposite end of tobacco bowl. B) light wood, unfinished stem, in flat rectangle in cross section; with ½ diamond, full diamond, back to back heart and full diamond cut into the wood on recto near mouthpiece. The other 6 5/8” portion towards the shank is decorated with brass tacks on both sides, and along both edges.
