1988.8.448 | 1971 | L: 42 in, Barrel length: 24 in, H: 7.5 in | Gift of Olin Corporation, Winchester Arms Collection | The manufacture of the NRA Centennial Model 94 marked the celebration in 1971 of the 100th anniversary of the National Rifle Association. In double tribute to that organization, Winchester issued two NRA Centennial commemorative firearms as limited edition models. The first of the new commemoratives, the Winchester NRA Centennial Model 94 Musket, closely resembles the original Winchester Model 1895 NRA Musket, a military-style lever action firearm that was designed to meet requirements for match competition shooting under NRA rules at the turn of the century. The second new commemorative, the Winchester NRA Centennial Model 94 Rifle, also is a lever action 30-30 caliber firearm. Distinctively different in appearance from the musket, the rifle is reminiscent of the earlier Winchester Model 64, formerly a highly popular rifle for deer hunting (Barnes: 1980). | [on left side of barrel:] WINCHESTER (registered trademark symbol) MODEL 94 30-30 WIN.; MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN.
