10.61 | ca. 1910 | H: 16 in, width: 24 in, Frame height: 21 in, Frame width: 28 in | Winter Afternoon (Crow Reservation) | Whitney Purchase Fund | Sharp often spent his winters in Montana, because he found it easier to obtain models, and he said the landscape was "too green" in summer. When he was making outdoor sketches, the artist used a sheepherder's wagon as a traveling studio. The artist wrote that he would "haul it to different localities and get several canvases each place . . . . Generally worked outside until cold froze the paint, then in and fired up." Boehme. | Source: (Whitney Purchase Fund) | 10.61.JPG | Landscape | Painting | oil on canvas | Joseph Henry Sharp (1859–1953) Winter Afternoon (Crow Reservation) ca. 1910, oil on canvas Whitney Purchase Fund 10.61 | Sharp, Joseph Henry
