Coe | Rawhide tube wrapped with cotton thread strung glass seed beads: white background with two (2) translucent red and black; and two (2) bright blue and black beaded designs; tanned hide top flap beaded white with five (5) black and blue banded and black and green band designs, with translucent red bead-edged. Two (2) hide strips wrapped in red porcupine quills each with four metal cones and large, bright red feathers fluffs. Bottom of case has same two (2) quill wrapped, tin cone feather fluff design. Thin hide strip sewn in case opening, for attachment/hanging. Coe | Woman's belt made of dark, thick commercial tanned hide, partially beaded and brass tacks. Each long side (½" W) is outlined in medium blue seed beads, sewn vertically. Three (3) segments of geometric designs (right and left is 5 ½" W - center design is 5"W) outer blocks in rose, outlines in white, two (2) stepped triangle boxes in dark blue and yellow on either side of center red box with green square cross in center. Four (4) remaining sections are in three (3) horizontal rows of brass tacks. Coe | Large butcher style knife with wood handle, riveted in 4 places, wrapped at top with wire. Handle has a three carved slashes and one almost tipi looking object. Knife sheath is parfleche. One piece of rawhide cut in U shape, folded over and stitched with sinew on outer edge; with tanned hide loop at top and four (4) tanned hide ties attached along the outer edge. Recto is yellow overall with design on perimeter echoing the shape of case in blue background with repeating red and yellow diamonds outlined with faint black line. Center is two blocks of designs - upper and lower sections. Rectangle with four corners in an angle design of stacked lines in blue, red, yellow green at center of this is yellow background with square cross in middle same colors - again all outlined in fine black. Bottom section is yellow background with three vertically stacked squares - large to small- in green, red, blue outlined in black. Verso also has design painted - which much more typical of Sioux people in creation of parfleche knife sheaths than other groups. Plain parfleche with blue line running along the shape of the case, and doubling on the outside rounded corner with five (5) green hashes between the two blue lines. Six (6) lines running horizontally across the center - all of this outlined in fine black lines. Coe | Wooden handled knife, grooved, (5 ¼"L) with 3 brass plugs inserted through for the blade, bottom edged in hammered brass; blade is steel (5 ¼"L). Sheath is tanned hide, fully beaded on recto, plain rawhide verso, widely stitched with heavy cotton thread with tanned hide strip as strap on top portion. Seven sets (14 total) of metal cones on cotton thread inserted with red feather fluffs on perimeter of sheath. Beadwork is majority white with 10 deep blue triangular designs, bordered with lines on either side - two rows of five running vertically on upper portion of case. Lower is band running on perimeter in white with seven (7) dark blue or black "I" shapes figures interspersed with six (6) small green squares. Coe | Rawhide sections divided into nine (9) segments of 7 rows on each of top six sections, and 11, 9 and 9 rows on bottom three sections (L to R). Styled like hair pipe necklace. Each of the individual sections is wrapped in red, purple and cream colored porcupine quills in geometric designs. Top of 6 of the sections has small brass tacks embellishing. Bottom of each of the 3 bottom sections are strung with cotton and thread and have metal cone with purple dyed feather fluff. Coe | Strips of rawhide wrapped in quills and attached to a cotton cloth backing at intervals stitched with cotton thread and lined with red cotton cloth and sequins. Bottom has a strip of red satin ribbon with tanned hide fringe lined with black glass beads and larger circular beads in blue, green white and orange. Neck strap is comprised of tubular black beads. Quills are dyed overall orange with square boxes in navy and hot pink and square boxes in green, white, hot pink, and navy.
