Awestruck by Autumn

There's nothing like the fall--with nature's golds, oranges, and reds--to make an artist grab a palette, some brushes, and a box of goopy paints to capture those rare sights. The Whitney Western Art Museum boasts its share of those autumn masterpieces. One look at this gallery, and you'll agree with Henry David Thoreau, October 12, 1852, when he observed, " I am struck by the simplicity of light in the atmosphere in the autumn, as if the earth absorbed none, and out of this profusion of dazzling light came the autumnal tints." Which artist below do you think best captures this idea from Thoreau?

It was named in honor of a great patron of western art, William E. Weiss, who died in 1985.
