Burnt wooden handle/stem with inside scalloped edge and checked stamped design with circular and diamond shaped inset. Museum record: NA.102.231 | ca. 1890 | knife length: 10.5 in, penknife width: 1 in, diameter of handle: 3.125 in | The Paul Dyck Plains Indian Buffalo Culture Collection, acquired through the generosity of the Dyck family and additional gifts of the Nielson Family and the Estate of Margaret S. Coe | Steel knife blade is marked "Joseph/ Allen & Sons/Sheffield/England" and "NON-XLL." Handle is knobby deer antler. Sheath is rawhide covered in tanned hide in two sections, sinew sewn on side seams. Front is covered in glass beads - majority white upper portion with two wavy green bands vertically down center outlines in med. red, three (3) small red square crosses with metal bead or green bead at center set vertically between the bars. Upper and lower sections of sheath separated by row of metal cones thread sewn. Lower portion is white majority in two bands echoing shape of sheath, four mountain shapes in dark blue with med. red and light blue interior squares. Two sets of double stacked red square crosses with yellow bead center placed between mountains. Coe | Golden eagle feather bonnet with trailer. Bonnet made from black felt cap; feathers attached with rawhide loops; red/orange wool, silk and cotton cloth wraps. Copper colored horsehair tufts at feather tips. Beaded brow band, light blue ground with red/white and yellow/blue tipi designs, green edging. Red, yellow, white ribbons at temples. 63” trailer with tail feathers attached to red cotton cloth trailer, yellow trim edge and backing; machine stitched. Trailer attaches to bonnet with hide ties. Eagle feather fluffs attached to sides of trailer with hide ties.
