Center of the West's First Official Collection Objects!
The Center of the West has a comprehensive, massive, huge, gi-normous--well, you get the picture--database of its collections objects. With five museums and a research library, you can certainly understand that after a hundred years in existence, and museum efforts launched in 1927, keeping track is the primary focus of the Center's Collections and Registration folks. Starting in the 1950s, staffers began the process of officially numbering and accessioning objects, creating records that you can now view here in our online collection. Most people think the statue "Buffalo Bill - the Scout" is the very first to be officially added. Not so! Read on to discover some of the first works to be RECORDED as part of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West's holdings. (Yes, the original Buffalo Bill Museum had a massive collection acquired from William F. Cody's family and friends. The modernized, comprehensive practice of "accessioning" began in 50s.)
