THE WESTERN TRAIL
Depending on whom you read or talked to, the trail West--whether cattle drive, explorer, or pioneers--was at once exciting, terrifying, frustrating, and invigorating. Hardships were plenty, and the trip West was not without its losses of property or life. Still, the wagons and horses kept coming as the myriad of diverse travelers had at least one thing in common: the search for something better. Take a look at these paintings and sketches to determine how each artist felt about the West.
