According to Balciar, the idea and title of this work came from an outdoor experience. "While fishing in Alaska in the Inside Passage, bald eagles were as plentiful as sparrows. It seemed like no matter where we fished there were at least one or two eagles high in the spruce trees, awaiting the opportunity to feed. High in the trees, they seemed to have the attitude that they were above all."
