The Paul Dyck Plains Indian Buffalo Culture Collection, acquired through the generosity of the Dyck family and additional gifts of the Nielson Family and the Estate of Margaret S. Coe
Used as tipi liner. Large piece of tanned bison hide, pinked on all sides, and decorated with 23 beaded lines with six points marked with blue wool fluffs to make vertical lines visually (7 one design - 1 alternating design - 7 - 1 - 7). 21 of the beaded lines (¼" W) are 6 short segments of red and green pony beads with wool tufts, span of white pony beads, red green segment, span of pink pony beads then repeat pink, white. The two (2) wider lines (1/2"W) are (6) six short segments of white, red white pony beads with six (6) blue wool tufts, large span of blue pony beads, red and white, large span red pony beads, repeat. The centers of each line are longer 11"L so give a visually longer vertical line. Two (2) hide strips looped through the top through a slit in hide, for hanging purposes. Verso: lower ¾'s of hide is painted in light color ochre, with two (2) rows of 7" dia. circles in outline - hide colored; the body of ochre color on upper region painted into five (5) 14"L arrows pointing upward. Remainder is plain hide, with lines from beaded rows on recto visible as bumps.
