The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks commissioned a sculpture of their symbol from Harvey. In an enclosed shed at the Bronx Zoological Park, the artist modeled the sculpture by observing a live elk during rutting season. "You take your life in your hands often when you are a sculptor of animals," he said.
