Halbach has stated that he was drawn to western art because of its "realism and romanticism." This painting combines those potentially contradictory charateristics. Halbach's style is precise and detailed, even in the fluid watercolor medium. Yet the realism serves a romantic end, creating an image of an idyllic Indian past.
