(Note from Kathy Wipfler, 8/13/08) The landscape in “Double Trouble” was painted on location in the Cliff Creek drainage in the Hoback Canyon, southeast of my home in Jackson. The view is looking up into Granite Creek, in the Gros Ventre Wilderness. The grizzly & cubs were drawn & roughed in on location (2 sessions on location) from gesture drawings I had in my sketch book. The piece was then finished in my Jackson studio. There are grizzlies living in the area, as the species continues to recover and expand territories once again.
