Gloss:
The Sharps New Model 1859, straight breech, breech-loading, single shot carbine was a great improvement over the earlier slant breech type and is the most common of the Sharps rifles and carbines, accounting for about 65% of the total Sharps production. Percussion straight breech models were numbered consecutively from about 30000 to 150000. These serials include the New Model 1859, 1863 and 1865 carbines and rifles.
