Lawmen of the rough-and-tumble era of the early American West were honored in 1978 with a special edition firearm--the Legendary Lawmen Model 94 Carbine. Limited to fewer than 20,000 in number, the lever-action carbine pays tribute to lawmen such as Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp, Pat Garrett, Wild Bill Hickok. (Barnes 1880).
[on left side of barrel:] WINCHESTER - (registered trade mark symbol) - MODEL 94 30-30 WIN.; MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL [on top of barrel:] (letter P over letter W) (encircled) (proof mark) [on right side of barrel:] LEGENDARY LAWMEN [on bottom of receiver:] LL01068 [on receiver upper tang:] MODEL 1894; WINCHESTER [on medallion in right side of butt stock:] (picture of sheriff standing on Main street)(inside sheriff's star) [on right side of receiver:] MARSHALL (in star); LEGENDARY LAWMEN; (picture of marshall with rifle on horse) [on left side of receiver:] (picture of marshall with rifle on horse bringing in a prisoner)
The carbine features a 16-inch Trapper barrel, popular with lawmen in the early West. The receiver has an antique silver finish engraved on both sides with scenes of peace officers in action. A marshall's badge and a lawman astride his galloping mount adorn the receiver's right side; on the left side is a lawman riding back through town with an outlaw in tow. A nickel-silver medallion is inlaid in the buttstock. Within the outline of a lawman's badge, the medallion portrays a sheriff, gun poised and ready to draw, standing on the main street of a typical western town. The packaging sleeve shows a color montage of Western lawmen working to keep the peace on the frontier. Re-accessioned 4-28-93, JMH; Silver plated receiver. no written record for this firearm.
