This lever action, repeating "musket", or military rifle, was an experimental pattern designed for military adoption. It has a toggle-link action similar to the Models 1866, 1873 and 1876. Made by Luke Wheelock, it features a loading port with hinged cover on the right side of the receiver. This loading port configuration is a variant of Nelson King's patented design of May, 1866 (U.S. 55,012). This design was never put into regular production.
