Gloss:
This type of musket was used by the French and Americans in the War of Independence. Many muskets were imported from France during the American Revolution after 1777; the total number has been estimated at over 100,000. The lock plate is surcharged with U.S. markings to denote Colonial ownership. Most of the imported French muskets were of this 1763 model.
