The Lee"Straight Pull" bolt action design was patented by James Paris Lee as a military arm. Winchester purchased production rights for the rifle and cartridge clip, and manufactured musket style arms for the U.S. Navy and limited numbers of sporting rifles. The military pattern was known as the U.S. Navy Rifle, Model 1895, caliber 6mm or .236 C.F. Many of these arms were use in the Spanish-American War. Very few Lee arms were made in sporting pattern. Factory records indicate that this Winchester rifle is chambered for .30/40 Krag, and incorporates Winchester improvements on the original Lee design, including the steel military buttplate, magazine base cover, adjustable rear sight, and steel barrel bands with stacking and sling swivel. Magazine capacity: 5 cartridges.
