Gloss:
This is a Sharps single shot, breech-loading, First Type pistol. It was manufactured from 1854 to about 1857; approximately 500 were produced. There were two types manufactured with a total production of approximately 900. The pistol has a dropping block action based on Sharps' 1848 patent. a percussion pellet priming device is built into the frame.
