This is a Smith and Wesson six-shot, double action, First Model revolver. It was manufactured from 1881 to 1913; approximately 53,668 were produced. It is also called the New Model Navy or double action frontier revolver. Unlike other large caliber Smith and Wesson break top revolvers, the example discussed has two sets of cylinder stop notches.
