The Winchester Model 68 rifle was a companion to the Model 67 and differed from it principally in sight equipment. It was first offered for sale in 1934. In 1937, rifles with Winchester 5-power telescopes were authorized. These rifles were equipped with telescope bases attached to the barrel. The Model 68, due to its more expensive sights, sold at slightly higher prices than its companion rifle, the Model 67, and consequently had a considerablly smaller volume of sale. Manufacture of M/68 rifles with 5-power scopes was discontinued in 1939, and the standard Model 68 was discontinued in 1946. Approximately 100,730 were made (Watrous: 1966).
