Gloss:
Sharps production of the Model 1874 began in 1871. The name "Model 1874" was applied later. The following is from the original sales records of the Sharps Rifle Co.: "Serial Number C,53859-Model 1874 sporting rifle. Made for S. H. Green, one of the directors of the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Co., and delivered to him January 23, 1872". About 6500 of this type of sporting rifle were made. Including all types about 12,500 Model 1874's were made.
