Patterned after the early Winchester lever action repeaters carried by the frontiersmen who pioneered and settled the nation's western states, the Lone Star firearms commemorated two important dates in Texas history: the 125th anniversary of its annexation to the United States and the 100th anniversary of its readmittance into the Union, following the War between the States. Sale of the Texas commemoratives, which were issued in limited edition, provided a royalty of $90,385 to Game Conservation International, popularly known as Game Coin, for use in conservation research and to provide more game for the sportsmen of Texas (Barnes: 1980).
