The Model 21 was the first break-open, double barrel shotgun ever manufactured by Winchester. A hammerless design, it featured simplicity of parts, quality of materials and precision manufacture. Available in a variety of styles from 12 to 410 gauge, the Model 21 has contributed greatly to Winchester's reputation for fine design and craftsmanship. It is now produced only in custom, pigeon and grand American grades and commands premium prices. This Model 21 shotgun was custom built by Winchester for Ernest Hemingway, but was never presented.
