Remarks:
Rawhide maul or mallet. Metal core of head is encircled with stacked rawhide layers (very worn). Handle is made of laminated leather over a metal core. Head is connected to handle with a metal nut. Brass piece at end of handle. Used to strike cutting dies, stamp tools, punches, and other tools requiring a heavy blow. See Osborne catalog #55, pg 28 for similar item.
