When hunting guide Jim Simpson saw a reproduction of a Rungius painting, he was so impressed he wrote and invited the artist to Alberta, Canada, to hunt, study, and paint big horn sheep. In the summer of 1910 Rungius accepted Simpson's invitation and began a productive period in the scenic grandeur of the Canadian Rockies.
