On handle (which is painted red 1/2 way up): "CRM CO", "1" [embossed on handle:] "AW"
Remarks:
Rawhide mallet. Round, wood, handle with rolled rawhide head. Mallet head is a tight 3" long cylinder. Rawhide end is tacked or nailed down with 2 nails across the top, 2 along the bottom and one on each side. Inscription and embossed on handle. Used for striking punches and stamp tools. See Osborne catalog #55, pg 26 for similar item.
