Acheff's art training led him to master the style of trompe l'oeil (fool the eye), exemplified in this painting. Portrayed realistically in this still-life arrangement are a Sioux pipe bag with beadwork and porcupine quills and two E.S. Curtis photographs: Red Cloud--Ogalala, a portrait of a Sioux leader, and Invocation--Sioux, a suppliant standing at a sacred rock and calling for divine revelation.
