Gloss:
Picturesque Mexico beckoned the cowpuncher artist Borein several times in his career. With a supply of sketches he moved to New York City for illustrating opportunities. He drew this dashing vaquero as a cover for the Sunday Magazine of the New York Tribune in 1909, then repeated the figure in this larger composition.
