Leigh employed some stylistic innovations associated with the impressionistic artists, such as the freer application of paint. His fascination with the Teton Mountains' reflection in the lake reveals his interest in portraying optical effects. Yet he never became a true impressionist because he maintained a commitment to representing forms.
