Watching the Dust of the Hostiles from the Bluffs of the Stronghold
This picture donated in honor of my very great friend and associate of many years, John S. Bugas. Henry Ford II.
In his article, "Lieutenant Casey's Last Scout: On the Hostile Flanks with the Chis-chis-chash" in Harper's Weekly, January 31, 1891, Remington described traveling in South Dakota with Cheyenne (Chis-chis-chash, or Tsistsistas, the Cheyenne name for themselves) scouts. Pictured left to right are: group of Cheyenne scouts; Cheyenne scout -- probably Wolf Voice; Lieutenant Getty; Lieutenant E.W. Casey; Frederic Remington; Cheyenne scout; Lieutenant L.H. Struthers.
