Waterfall in Yellowstone
Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney
Twachtman, who received his early artistic training in Cincinnati, also traveled to Europe and was influenced by the Impressionist movement. The hard geological features of Yellowstone dissolve in this artist's painterly versions of the scenery. Twachtman visited Yellowstone in September, 1895, and experienced an autumn snowfall which affected the coloration in this painting.
